My review from 2022…
“I just finished this memoir, SIGH, GONE by PHuc Tran and was completely transfixed. At 90 pages left I tried to savor every word but found myself at the end rather quickly. So much for trying! There was no way I could slow down my reading because I was immersed into Tran’s story from the start. Though I can’t compare my Jewish American-upbringing to his, I did relate to his anger, passion and growing pains. Also, his love of literature as well as his punk-ness (it’s the best I can do at the moment) as it’s not just about the music but much deeper and profound. My heart hurt for him during the hard times and my heart connected to his during the most relatable times. (Too many repetitive words, I know.)
This was clearly a passion project for the author and it comes across loud and in your face. I loved the writing, vulnerability and attitude. Very impressive and notable. I aspire to share as much of myself as well as he has, not that I haven’t tried. I have.
I want to thank Mr. Tran for putting his story into the world and doing so with precision and candidness. The book reads perfectly, smooth and glossy as well as no typos that I could uncover. That, right there is practically a miracle.
Sigh, don’t be gone. Please pen another memoir dear author.”
