We were in our own universe out there and we relished it as if what we were doing was perfectly normal. However, when we showed up at school on Monday morning, we were reminded that we were far from normal.
We were often laughed at, pointed out, and spit on.
That made us long to be in our element, around our friends, on the grimy parts of L.A. That was where we were most alive.
School became a place of dread, where education was found on the streets amongst the other outcasts.
