As a teen, I may have had growing pains, insecurities
and grievances about not fitting in, but looking back,
those punk days were something I treasure the most. It
was a time when I was full of passion and a zest for life.
Life got tough in my early twenties, but not then.
Most punks complained about being on the streets, not
having money and their lousy parents. Some of my
friends had it so bad they didn’t make it past nineteen.
Drug overdoses were rampant and teen suicides were not
uncommon.
For me, it was different: Those teen years were
golden.
With the exception of the strict rules laid down by my
parents, I was free and didn’t have to think about the
future. I was backing our leaders, the Sex Pistols and
their mantra, “NO FUTURE.” If I followed that closely enough, I wouldn’t have to worry about what came next.
