THE BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE

Forty Years of Punk
Brenda Perlin for crime and punkishment

When Captain Sensible messaged me to meet
him backstage, I hurried to his location, but the
bodyguards informed me I didn’t have the right kind
of pass. I may have been discouraged, but I didn’t
walk away. I found lead singer, Dave Vanian, and in a
teeny-bopper sort of a way asked if he knew where
the Captain was. I must have looked like I didn’t
belong there, but he was friendlier than I would have
imagined, even willing to sign an autograph for my
friend, Pete, who lives in the U.K. He also suggested I
go back in the room and look for his band-mate.
Minutes later, there he was. Captain Sensible
himself. He was surrounded by groups of people who
all wanted a piece of this punk music icon. Me
included, but I wore an attitude like, I’m with the
band and promptly flew to his side.
