Back in the seventies and early eighties there were no straight legged pants available so we had to alter them to our liking. (What a silly time in history! Not that today is much better…)
Mostly we found things at thrift stores, Army surplus and vintage shops. I loved clothes from the forties, fifties and the sixties. Us Punks definitely turned heads. today people pay good money to buy garments and shoes that look like they are from the past.
We all had our own styles and identities though sometimes we experimented with looks from old movie stars and musicians like the Sex Pistols, Siouxsie Sioux, Billy idol, Ramones and other people on our radar. There was something appealing about not having look like everyone else. We took advantage of the great prices in those places and definitely had no problem standing out. Blending in was so dull. We were ready for something better and doing it ourselves. Creating art, taking pictures, starting bands or experimenting with things others would only dare to try. That was punk as fuck!
